Ahoy guys. I know, I’m sorry. The Kyle and Halley Update will be coming out next week, as there are still some moving parts we are waiting to share.
In the meantime, I would like to present some of the gear I’ve personally purchased that has come in handy while in the industry. Even if you are not working on yachts, I recommend the items I’ve listed below to all travel junkies. Just so happens these are also some of the few things I can squeeze into my cabin.
Sadly, I am not making any commission off of these recommendations, these are just my genuine suggestions. Hopefully soon I’ll figure that part out.
1. BaLeaf Sun Shirts

I got a few sun shirts from this company off Amazon before starting yachting and I’m very thankful I did. They are 50 SPF, lightweight, available in multiple colors and can come with a hood and or neck guard as seen modeled so well up above. Sun shirts are usually my go to when day working, but also good for any outdoor activity with a lot of sun exposure.
2. Columbia Deck Shoes

I swear on Dave Jones, if you are working out on deck buy some god damn deck shoes. Back pain, stubbed toes and foot infections are no longer cool guys.
The “advanced water-and-stain repellency” quote, unquote, is made to be working in and around the water. In addition, they also feature a soft insole and non skid bottoms.
I personally like the professional but fresh look, bungie cord laces and their durability in water. Kyle also has a pair and is equally as obsessed with his.
3. Camera: PowerShot G5 X Mark II

I found this camera through a charter guest I worked with and it’s currently on my wish list.
The compact frame not only still produces high quality shots, but also makes it so easy to travel with. It includes a rotating play back screen is perfect for selfies or vlog videos. Plus, a bluetooth feature that can send the photos you’ve taken straight to your phone. AH SO NICE!
If anyone reading this has this camera, I’d love to hear more about it before I pull the shopping trigger.
4. Amazon Chums

I’ve tried a lot of chums. Mostly because I like different designs, I’ll admit. However, the tried and true is this simple Amazon find.
First of all, I highly recommend polarized sunglasses. I DO NOT recommend spending hundreds of dollars on them, because chances are you will lose or break them at some point on the job. If you work in the sun, around the water these chums fit all types of glasses. They come in a pack of 6, with different colors of course, are durable, and best of all super cheap.
5. Wekapo Beach Blanket

I got this as a Christmas present both from Kyle and my parents. Every time I go to the beach I bring my Wekapo along.
It comes in different sizes, but generally is large enough to fit a few friends and your belongings. The corners have pockets perfect for anchoring it into the sand. Besides the beach, it also comes with stakes if you want to take it to a picnic on hard ground. Finally as you can see, it then can easily be folded back into a pouch and shoved back into your car.
6. Bose Waterproof Speaker

Also a Christmas present, I do love my Bose speaker. I’ve had a JBL in the past and I’d say they’re very comparable. JBL’s now a days can connect to each other which is a cool feature I’m missing out on. Though I like the long battery life, sound quality and travel case.
7. Silk Eye Mask & Ear Plugs

The essential starter kit for light sleepers. I use my these ear plugs every night. They are meant for the gun range, so they can block out even the heaviest of snorers (KYLE). You can get a 3 pack at Walmart for a couple bucks.
Eye masks are great if you’re on a passage sleeping during weird hours or if your cabin mate is on a different work schedule.
One super perk about working on boats is all the gear they provide you. They usually are only be worn in work settings and can not be taken with you after termination of employment, granted. Though, everything you need for work will be supplied, thus everything I am suggesting is just extra or can help out before you get to that full time job.
I plan for this gear recommendation to be an ongoing segment, as I have many more things your little heart’s can buy. As for now this is a good place to start.
If there are any other brands or products out there that I should try please let me know!
