Kyle & Halley September 2023 Update
Hello again my old friends. I am so sorry for that big dramatic pause, but I found the time to live my life (and also found myself under a lot of work) but don’t worry we are back!
A lot has happened since we’ve last chatted. I don’t even know where to begin. So here’s my best attempt to catch you up on Kyle & Halley’s adventures!
All Over The NorthEast
The past two months Kyle, his mustache and his boat Glory have been MOVING! This season he’s been to Nantucket, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Sag Harbor, Jersey City, New Bedford, Mystic, Newport and probably more I’m forgetting!
Kyle says his favorite was Newport, but that’s a little biased because that’s where he was able to find a consistent pick-up soccer group lol.
As for me, we’ve been to NYC, Long Island, Montauk and Newport so far this season. Luckily I’ve been able to visit Kyle for a lot of places my boat didn’t get to. Additionally I’ve had some free weekends to explore the Northeast by land. My favorites being Lake Placid, NY, Salem, MA and the Flume Gorge, NH.

Working Together
This past month we’ve also gotten a few chances to work together!
Kyle surprised me and came aboard my boat to help out with a party earlier this month. Fortunately, I got to repay the favor and help out aboard Glory (Kyle’s boat) for a party cruise along the Hudson River.
We got super lucky this season to be on boats that have welcomed each other on board and made it work with our schedules!

As the month comes to an end, Kyle has officially completed a full season working as a yachtie! I was able to join his end-of-season-dinner-with-da-boss and not only did he just survive but he thrived! His owners love him! His captain on the other hand is really tired of hearing about it ;).
Kyle has learned quite a lot this season and has become an exquisite captain of his own (much smaller) boat. I’m very proud of him for how well he’s taken on this new lifestyle and happy that he’s happy.

When We Aren’t Working
We’ve also gotten a decent amount of off time these past few months. My mom was able to come visit one weekend and we fulfilled her dreams of going to the US Open! She’s already been years ago, but hasn’t stopped talking about it since.

I’ve also gotten the chance to get dinner with Colleen, Gibby’s (my hometown best friend) old college roommate, my old teammate Sam and cousin Jack and his girlfriend Claudia two different times!
We also had the craziest CSU meet up in NYC. While helping Kyle out in Jersey City, we were able to meet up with Sam & Kessler (my old teammates & freshman roomie) and JEFF?! Jeff played club soccer with Kyle and also helped out on the girls team back at CSU. Little did we all know he moved to NYC and surprised us out at the bars!

What’s Next
As I write this, Kyle and his boat are wrapping up the Northeast and heading back down to Florida. Once they arrive Kyle plans on taking some vacation back in Colorado. So clear your calendars people!
On the contrary, my boat will be staying in Connecticut for approximately another month until heading down to Miami. I too will be heading back to Colorado in a few weeks also to attend my soccer alumni weekend and take vacation as well.
Even though the season is over, we are quickly looking ahead.
I have decided to extend my contract onboard my current boat until the end of January. Though sometimes working as a crew of 1 is lonely, I really enjoy being my own day-to-day boss and the flexibility and freedom that comes with that responsibility. Additionally, I am learning SO much about all aspects of yachting in my role than any job previous.

As for Kyle, he also is signed on for the indefinite future. This fall and winter his boat will be sitting in Vero beach undergoing some projects that thankfully should allow him to take some vacation and be home around the holidays!
Eventually, Kyle and I are looking to work together on a boat. Yet, before signing onto another contract we’re hoping to take some (more) solid time off and see all of our friends, family and the bar at the top of Winter Park.
Future of Plank Runner
My goal for the rest of this year is to get back on releasing articles once a week again. Yet, I don’t want my articles to feel forced, which I felt at times. I’ve decided to focus primarily on just my blog as compiling Instagram, TikTok & email lists were too much in total.
Who woulda thought I couldn’t do it all?!
I am so grateful to you all for continuing to follow our journey and read along. Comment what you all have been up to this summer and what’s on your agenda ahead this fall & winter!
